fabric-cross-on-woodLet’s get started with this super easy to make fabric cross.
Grab your materials:
* 3 different patterns of fabric
* 1 or 2 pieces of wood (cut to the length and width desired)
* Glue Gun
* Detail to add in the middle (I used a sand dollar) You could also use a flower, piece of jewelry, shell just to name a few.

So what do you think of these super cool pieces of wood?! I love them, but I loved the price even more. Here’s my trick for getting wood {filled with character} on the cheap! At Lowes, in the wood section, there are pieces of fencing. At my local store, they had 2 large bundles stacked on top of each other. I dug thru to hand pick the pieces I wanted. They were under $3 a piece and roughly 4 feet long. I took them over to get cut to size and I was good to go.

If you’re anything like me, when you’re in the fabric section every fun color and new pattern is competing for your attention. I get excited, inspired and overwhelmed all at the same time- anyone else feel that way?
In this case, I grabbed about 10 different fabrics and headed to the cutting counter. It just so happened I stacked these 3 on top of each other and squealed “Oooh”! And thus this project had a vision.

Once you layout the order of your fabrics, you need start with the widest (fabric on the bottom). I don’t sew, would love too, but don’t. So I’m always looking for the easy way. All you need to do is fold over the edge, yep- that’s it.

When you glue each end on the edge, or over the back of the wood you’ll need to pull the fabric slightly in the center. I used a little piece of string and gathered the center then pulled it loosely. This step progresses, so when you are on the top layer- you will pull it the tightest. Continue to glue the ends of each layer on top of one another.

I felt like it needed a little something more in the middle so I gathered a couple scraps and folded them over, then alternated how I stacked them. Added the mini sand dollar and it was complete!
